Erasmus+
This mobility grant contributes to the travel and subsistence costs of on-site trainings (from 2 days to 4 weeks) at other institutions in Erasmus+ participating countries. The action fosters the share and transfer of knowledge and best practices, the acquisition of practical skills, and the discovery of new ideas, through training events.
Eligible to apply are:
- academic and administrative staff of ISTA
- with an employment contract valid 2 months before and 2 months after the mobility action
- with supervisor approval

ISTernships
The summer internship funded by ISTA in cooperation with the OeAD, provides a montly compensation for travel and subsistence costs among other benefits (up to 3 months), for BSc and MSc students wishing to “expand their scientific research experience” in any of/across the disciplines at ISTA.
The application deadline is in February every year.

EMBO Research Exchange Grants
The EMBO grants cover travel and subsistence costs of research visits (from 7 days to 3 months) at institutions in eligible countries. The aim is to facilitate collaborations with research groups with expertise and/or infrastructure that is unavailable at the host institution or laboratory.
Open to:
- researchers at all stages of their careers, with ⩾ 1Y experience at PhD level or equivalent
- visits at international institutions in EMBC Member States, Associated Member States or Cooperation Partners
- visits with a broader purpose than training in a specific technique
- visits that do not involve attendance to courses, workshops or symposia
Applications are accepted all year round.

EMBO Core Facility Fellowships
These fellowships support international exchanges (from 7 days to one month, 30 days) of core research facility staff, including scientists and technicians. The facilities involved should be in eligible countries. Intended for the training in specific techniques, the funds contribute towards travel and subsistence of the fellow.
The main eligibility criteria:
- active staff scientists or technicians working in a core research facility with ⩾ 1Y laboratory experience
- the host must be a core research facility in a EMBC Member State, Associated Member State or Cooperation Partner
- reapplication is possible with a new project in a different host institution, and ⩾ 12M after the previous Core Facility Fellowship or the date of the previous application (if unsuccessful)
- the fellowship must bring benefit to the home facility and enable the implementation of the new technology there. Training in the use of technology not available at the home institution will only be considered if the purpose of the visit is precisely the implementation of that technology in the near future. Hence it is advisable to apply once the technology is already available. Fellows must immediately return and stay at their home core facility for at least 6 consecutive months.
- proposals for visits to core facilities in the context of an existing collaboration or involving previous exchanges of personnel will not be considered

EMBO Advanced Collaboration Grants
Aimed at supporting group leaders based in participating countries and in EMBO subject areas, these research development grants should enable them to explore feasible collaborations through joint projects with tangible objectives with the hosting laboratoy. The grant support a flexible schedule of visits (max 3 paid by EMBO) with an overall duration of ⩽ 6 months.
As an optional consolidating measure, the grant comes with a Scientific Consolidation Subsidy that allows an additional member of the home laboratory to work at the host institution for ⩽ 3M (90 days).
Main eligibility criteria:
- active research scientist with their own research laboratory or in an independent position in Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland Slovenia or Turkey
- the host laboratory must be based in an EMBC Member State, Associated Member State or Cooperation Partner
- upon completion, grantees must be able to return to their home institutions and remain for ⩾ 6 consecutive months. A written commitment of the home institution is required as proof
- previous EMBO fellows can apply with a new project at a different host institution, and same- programme grantees can reapply ⩾ 6M after completion of the previous grant
Applications are accepted throughout the year. However it is recommended that applications be submitted ⩾ 3M in advance but not less than 30 days before the start date of the research visit.

FEBS Short-Term Fellowships
The FEBS STFs are intended to cover travel and subsistence costs of short-term visits (up to 2M, exceptionally 3M) of junior researchers, for the purpose of scientific collaboration, training or employing techniques not available at the home institution.
Eligibility criteria:
- scientists with a PhD degree (< 6Y, career breaks may be considered) or with at least one published paper as main author in an international scientific journal
- applicants must be members of the FEBS Constitutent Society
- previous FEBS ST Fellows must wait ⩾ 2Y to reapply
Applications are accepted throughout the year. However, those should be submitted at least 3M before the proposed starting date.

BIF Travel Grants
The travel Grants of the Böhringer Ingelheim Foundation (BIF) supports with travel and lodging costs PhD students and postdocs who wish to visit another laboratory or attend research-orientated courses for 1-3 months. The programme welcomes proposals related to basic biomedical research. Courses must have a hands-on/practical component of at least 50% of their duration (e.g. EMBL courses or EMBO courses).
Main eligibility criteria:
- PhD and MSc students: applicants who obtained their university entrance qualification within the last 11 years prior to the planned research visit
- Postdocs: applicants who obtained their university entrance qualification within the last 13 years prior to the planned research visit
Applications are accepted all year round, but should be submitted not earlier than 6 months and not later than 6 weeks from the starting date of the planned visit.

The OeAD* funds or contributes to the implementation of a number of programs that promote international exchange and gain of knowledge of students and researchers at different academic stages. OeFG International Communication
This research program of the Austrian Research Foundation (OeFG) provides financial support for the following activities:
- Presentation of research results at international congresses, symposiums or workshops abroad. Events with a predominantly educational component, such as courses, summer schools, etc.. are not included.
- Organisation of small international symposiums or workshops in Austria
- Short-term stays at foreign scientific institutions to learn specific methods and techniques or to perform scientific work with resources, equipment or materials not available at the host institution, and which are part of the research project
- Hosting scientist from other institutions to participate in discussions, lectures or similar events to facilitate scientific discussion (courses not included)
Funding is to be primarily given to young scientists whose previous achievements have been of high quality and who, for formal reasons or because other funds have been exhausted, cannot receive sufficient funding by other means.
Applications can only be submitted in advance, i.e. before the travel or event takes place and the next call deadline. Under this program, the OeFG will only grant funds once per person and year.
