ISTA supports top-class scientific research through a series of funding programs for external and internal researchers at all stages of their careers.

External applicants

• ISTA-Fellow is a postdoctoral program for postdocs wishing to come to ISTA to perform top-class research with one or more current ISTA research groups.

• The NOMIS-ISTA Fellowship Program offers support for outstanding post-docs (future research leaders) wishing to come to ISTA to perform research “at the intersection of two or more scientific disciplines“.

• The ISTernship is a summer fellowship for BSc and MSc students of all nationalities wishing to “expand their scientific research experience” in and across the disciplines at ISTA.

Internal applicants

• As of Sept. 2025: The Student Interdisciplinary Project (SIP), and the Interdisciplinary Projects Committee (IPC) are temporarily discontinued. More information will be provided in the following months.

• The xista Fellowship Program of the ISTA Technology Transfer Office (xista innovation) supports alumni and postdocs at ISTA “to refine and explore their start-up ideas for one year“.
